The electric utility operates 36,000 kilowatts of internal combustion natural gas generation capacity and purchases power through an 8 member municipal power pool. The City's electric distribution system uses approximately 117 miles of primary line to service its 5,800 customer accounts and has annual sales exceeding 300 million kilowatt hours. The Board of Public Works Commission provides oversight and direction for utility operations as well as approval over rate and budgetary matters. The Board is comprised of five residents of the City who are appointed by the City Council to serve 5-year staggered terms.

The water utility purchases its water at wholesale from the City of Holland, Michigan and operates its own distribution system consisting of approximately 50 miles of water main serving approximately 2,700 customer accounts and providing annual sales exceeding 1.2 billion gallons.
